Hawke's Bay Intercultural Youth Group.

Our group consists of young migrants from different backgrounds.

This year we are aiming to produce a cultural based movie to enter into the United Nations Plural+ competition, and we have taken part in the Blossom Parade and the Rugby World Cup festival.

We also organise a series of fun and interactive workshops around cultural, ethnic and diversity topics. We meet fortnightly to discuss our projects and hang out together. We love catching up with each other while we share food together!

Our goal is to build a multicultural youth group to share experiences and build confidence. Right now we are looking for new members. If you (recently) migrated to New Zealand, are aged between 14-24 and would like to join our interactive youth group, please contact us. We would like to meet you!

Regional Youth Environment Council

The Hawke's Bay Youth Environment Council (HBYEC) is made of local high school students who are environmental leaders within their schools. The aim of this group is to represent and be the ‘voice' of the youth (12–18 year olds) of the Hawke's Bay region, with regard to environmental issues, awareness and education. Most of the students join the group during year 11 or 12 and finish during year 13, giving them 2 years to gain knowledge and leadership experience.

The group has, instigated, organised and facilitated many projects over the past year including a stream clean up at Anderson Park in Napier, paper recycling programme at the Hawke's Bay Airport, a local 350 awareness and action campaign, a climate change forum with Hastings Youth Council, participation at Hawke's Bay Regional Council public events and an annual overnight Regional Environmental Forum event.

As the leaders of the environmental group at their schools, Youth Environment Council students promote environmental education initiatives throughout the school community. Some of these projects include, waste and energy audit, worm farm, compost bin, whole school presentation of environmental topics, a bike to school event, planting gardens, and water saving ideas.

Student Army's Sam Johnson recognised

Good Practice in Action video of Sam Johnson online

Student Volunteer Army founder, Sam Johnson, presented at the Good Practice in Action Conference on 17 June in Wellington. He explained how social media was used to mobilise Canterbury's young people to help clean up after the earthquakes.

Napier Youth Council

The Youth Council of Napier is a group of young people who come together to discuss how they can give the youth of Napier a chance to participate in their community.
