The organisation: Napier and Districts Grey Power
We are an autonomous branch of the Grey Power federation, with about 450 – 500 members in Napier. To become a member, you must be 50 years or over, although most members are superannuitants.
Grey Power is an incorporated society, not a charitable trust, as our purpose is to advocate for the needs of older New Zealanders.
What we do in Napier
We meet at the Tamatea Community Church, 1 York Avenue, once a month, at 1:30 pm on the third Tuesday. We have discussions on current issues affecting older people, then a member talking for three minutes, followed by a guest speaker and question/discussion time for up to 45 minutes. Then we have a cup of tea and fellowship.
Our newsletter comes out four times a year, and is sent to all members and is a collection of news, views, advertisements and photographs. Membership forms are always included in each newsletter. We offer a discount book to members for a small cost.

A grief and loss and support programme for children
Seasons is a programme of peer support groups for children who are experiencing loss or grief, perhaps due to the death of someone close to them, the separation or divorce of their parents, or other major family change.
Seasons groups are available for children aged between 5 and 18.
Most importantly, Seasons is about peer support. The children are part of a group where they can explore their thoughts and feelings about loss and change.
Often the greatest benefit is in being with others who are experiencing similar things.
Asked what they would tell other children about Seasons …..
“I like being here” – 5 year old boy
“Its very cool - you learn a lot and it helps you with your problems” – 9 year old girl
“I would tell them join the group!” – 11 year old boy
“Given me new perspective” – 15 year old girl
Seasons groups are held each term in both Hastings and Napier. Parents groups may also be available.
Caring volunteers are needed to be facilitators working with small groups of children. Training will be offered to suitable people who will have some experience with children and with group work.
For more information contact the programme coordinators
